Individual Instruction

MLMA offers Individual Instruction in all musical instrumental disciplines as well as voice for students of all ages and levels.

Among the teachers are graduates of leading conservatories around the world.  Our teachers are professionals of the highest level.  Our teachers are friendly and are committed to the mission and method of MLMA.

The tuition noted below is per lesson.  Typically, students take one lesson per week.  An alternate schedule may be arranged for students wishing to take two or more lessons per week.  It is recommended that more than one lesson per week be considered for the youngest students to increase the effectiveness and speed of learning.  Please contact us to make the arrangement that would work best for your child.

Individual Instruction by Special Arrangement is available if, for some reason, the student is unable to commit to a semester’s instruction.  Lessons must be arranged through the office and are subject to teacher availability.  Additional charges apply.  Please see Tuition section for the details.

Chamber Music

MLMA offers Chamber Music coaching for strings, woodwinds, piano, and mixed ensembles of all ages and levels.  Enjoy making music together with your friends or family members, or sign up by yourself and we will match you according to your age, level, instrument, and preference.  Lessons emphasize team play, active listening, and musical collaboration, and explore a chamber music repertoire.  Prior musical training is required.

MAKE-UP POLICY

Each student is permitted two make-up lessons per Fall Semester, one per Winter Semester and one per Spring Semester.  Make-up lessons are not offered for the Summer Semester.

Students are asked to schedule their make-ups in advance if they know they will be missing a lesson due to travel plans or other schedule conflicts.

A phone call to the MLMA office 24 hours prior to the lesson would be appreciated for lessons cancelled due to illness or unanticipated schedule conflict.  If there is less than 24 hours until the lesson, a call directly to the teacher is required.  Teacher contact information will be given at the time of registration.

Students are reminded that lessons can still take place even if instruments are lost or damaged.  With notification in time, teachers may be able to provide an instrument for temporary use and/or use the lesson time to focus on musical theory.  Students who have an injury which limits their ability to play their instruments are welcome to keep their lesson and have their teacher focus on another aspect of their musical learning.

Cancelled lessons should be made up during the current semester.  Make-up lessons cannot be carried over to another semester.

If the teacher cancels, a substitute teacher may be assigned, or the lesson may be rescheduled.  If a substitute teacher is provided, there will be no other make-ups.

Please refer to the Student Handbook for complete details.

TUITION PAYMENT PLANS

Tuition is billed for the entire semester at the per-lesson rate noted above multiplied by the number of lesson-days in the semester being billed.  The number of lessons for the semester is noted on student invoice.

At the time of registration, parents/guardians must designate which of the following three payment plans they wish to follow for the academic year 2009 – 2010:

1.     Full Payment by Second Week of Semester

Payment in full is required by the second week of the semester.    All new students are required to follow this payment plan until they have completed one full semester with on-time tuition payments.  Tuition will be pro-rated for new students enrolling mid-semester.

A late fee of $25 per student will be imposed for missing the payment date.  If the tuition and the late fee are not paid by the fourth week, a suspension notice will be sent.

2.     Payment in Two Installments   (Not available for new students)

Tuition can be split into two equal payments for the Fall, Winter and Spring Semesters.    The first payment is due by the second week of the semester.    The second payment is due by the sixth week of the semester.    Exact payment due dates will be highlighted on the invoice.    New students will be eligible for Payment in Two Installments once they have been enrolled for one complete semester and have paid their tuition on time.

A late fee of $25 per student will be imposed for missing the first payment date. If the first tuition payment and the late fee are not paid by the fourth week, a suspension notice will be sent.

A (separate) late fee of $25 per student will be imposed for missing the second payment date. If the second tuition payment and the late fee are not paid by the seventh week, a suspension notice will be sent.

Payment in Two Installments is not available for the Summer semester.

3.     Advance Payment for 5% Tuition Discount    (Not available for new students)

For eligible students who select this plan, discounted tuition for the entire semester is paid in advance by the stated deadlines.  The discounted amount will be invoiced in advance.  If the discount payment deadline is missed, full payment is required by the stated regular payment deadline.  The tuition discount is only available after students have been enrolled for one complete semester and have paid their tuition on time.  The Executive Director reserves the right to limit participation in the Tuition Discount Plan.  Please check the SCHEDULE for the deadlines for the advance payment.

If you wish to change your payment plan for a subsequent semester please
contact the office directly.

Students who increase their lesson length mid-semester will be billed separately for the increase in lesson length.
